Binance co-founder CZ just dropped the receipts — he was legit surprised by Trump's pardon and straight-up denied any business ties with the Trump family during a Friday interview. The man said he's never even met Trump IRL or spoken to him, before OR after getting that presidential pardon in October. The only Trump he's encountered? Eric Trump, once, at the Bitcoin Middle East and North Africa conference in Abu Dhabi.
“I did not know when or if it was going to happen. I believe my lawyers submitted the petition in April, and it took a few months. I didn’t know the progress. There was no indication of how far it went along, etc. Then, it happened one day.”
The pardon sparked MASSIVE drama — crypto degens celebrated it as a W for the industry and a middle finger to Biden's anti-crypto policies, while Democratic lawmakers went full rage mode, accusing Trump of straight-up political corruption.
CZ pardon sparks controversy and accusations of pay-to-play mechanics
Trump admitted he doesn't personally know CZ but claimed the case against him was politically motivated BS. He straight-up said: “He had a lot of support, and they said that what he did is not even a crime, it wasn’t a crime. He was persecuted by the Biden administration.”
But Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters went nuclear, accusing Trump of a classic “pay-to-play” scheme — pardoning CZ in exchange for crypto investments into Trump family projects like World Liberty Financial (WLFI).
The heat got so real that Democratic heavyweights Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders penned an open letter to attorney general Pam Bondi, demanding answers and scrutinizing the whole pardon situation. This is getting spicy.
