OKX's boss, Star Xu, just dropped an apology after users got their accounts frozen over 'false positives'. Imagine being locked out of your crypto stash for looking sus when you're just chillin'.
OKX's head honcho, Star Xu, is eating humble pie after users got their accounts frozen for no good reason. Dude says 'false positives' are the crypto exchange's biggest headache when trying to play by the rules globally.
Xu spilled the tea on X, admitting their system's got a bit of a trigger finger, locking folks out even when they're just minding their business. 'We're sorry, okay? Our system's a bit jumpy,' he basically said.
Compliance bots be trippin'
'False positives' – when the system ghosts you for no reason – are the worst, Xu admits. Even the slickest tech can't always tell who's naughty or nice, leading to innocent crypto hodlers getting the cold shoulder.
He's not wrong. Even the big players like Coinbase have had to chill with the account freezes. But when regulators whisper 'better safe than sorry,' exchanges listen, even if it means asking you to prove your dad's your dad.
'This is why some users, despite being fully compliant and behaving normally, may still get hit with the 'prove your dad is your dad' request.' – Star Xu, probably regretting his life choices.
With over 600 compliance cops on the beat, OKX's still playing whack-a-mole with false alarms. 'Can't fix it all,' Xu shrugs, as users facepalm worldwide.
User rage hits the fan
One user's X rant went viral after their account got frozen since June 21, despite jumping through every verification hoop imaginable – 10-year work history, employer deets, you name it. Proof of funds? Rejected for 'not matching selected answers.' LOL, what?
Xu, in a move of either bravery or desperation, shared the complaint with his 130K followers. Maybe hoping for sympathy? Or just proving he's not hiding from the mess.
- • User asked for 10-year work history – because crypto exchanges are now your high school guidance counselor.
- • Proof of funds rejected for not matching 'selected answers' – aka the system's mood that day.
- • Account frozen since June 21 – that's a whole crypto winter for one person.
Cointelegraph hit up OKX for comment but got radio silence. Maybe their comms team is locked out too. 🤷♂️
