Strategy adds 1,031 Bitcoin for $77M as holdings top 762,000 BTC
Michael Saylor’s Strategy, the world’s largest public holder of Bitcoin, bought another 1,031 Bitcoin last week in a much smaller purchase than its previous two weekly buys, funding the acquisition with sales of Class A common stock.
Michael Saylor’s Strategy just dropped another bag on Bitcoin — 1,031 BTC for $76.6 million last week. This is a chill buy compared to their previous two weekly splurges, and they funded it by selling Class A common stock. Average price? $74,326 per coin, which is actually below their overall average acquisition price of $75,694. For context, Bitcoin averaged around $70,871 that week. This brings their total stash to a mind-blowing 762,099 BTC, acquired for a total cost of roughly $57.69 billion.

Common stock funded the latest buy

This modest purchase comes after two massive buys: a 22,337 BTC ($1.6 billion) grab last Monday (one of their largest ever, mostly funded by selling their perpetual preferred equity, Stretch (STRC)) and a 17,994 BTC buy the week before. The latest move was different — funded through sales of their Class A common stock, not preferred equity.
Strategy has gone on a March shopping spree, scooping up 41,362 Bitcoin for around $2.93 billion. But with Bitcoin trading at $70,430 at the time of writing, the company is currently down around 7% on its BTC holdings, now worth about $54 billion.
Here's the real tea: Strategy's holdings are now roughly 3% *below* the Bitcoin holdings of BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT), which held about 785,300 BTC for its clients as of last Friday. US spot Bitcoin ETFs collectively held nearly 1.3 million BTC as of March 20, representing roughly 6.1% of the total 21 million Bitcoin supply.
