Ether supply on exchanges drops to multi-year lows: Here’s why it matters
The balance of Ether (ETH) held on exchanges has slid to a multiyear low, with more than 31 million ETH leaving centralized exchanges in February, marking the largest monthly withdrawal since November.

Ether exchange reserves signal supply squeeze

Crypto analyst Arab Chain revealed that over 31.6 million ETH fled major exchanges in February — the biggest monthly exodus since November. Binance bled the most with ~14.45M ETH withdrawn (nearly half the total), followed by OKX (~3.83M ETH) and Kraken (~1.04M ETH).
Sustained withdrawals = thinner liquidity pool. Coins moving to private wallets or staking are less liquid short-term, which can crank up volatility when trading surges.
CryptoQuant data shows Binance’s ETH reserves have cratered to ~3.46M ETH — lowest since 2020. Previous cycles saw reserves peak above 5M ETH before entering a downtrend. This latest drop extends that decline.
With ETH stuck below $2K, the supply crunch puts all eyes on future demand. If buying pressure ramps up while reserves keep falling, liquidity around $2K could get dangerously tight.

Market remains split between retail and whales

Hyblock data reveals a stark divergence:
  • Small trades ($0–$10K): Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) at ~$95M → retail buying pressure holding strong.
  • Mid-size ($10K–$100K): CVD at -$162M → net selling.
  • Whales ($100K+): CVD at -$357M → heavy net selling.
Bid-ask ratio just turned slightly positive (~0.2, now 0.03), indicating marginal buying interest after a negative streak — but it’s stabilization, not conviction.
Aggregated open interest sits at ~$9.41B, down from ~$10B in late February. Leverage is being trimmed as ETH consolidates between $1.9K–$2K.
If retail accumulation persists and whale selling slows, bullish positioning could align. Then, the shrinking exchange supply might amplify any move once ETH breaks above $2K–$2.15K.
