Figure Technology Solutions, a blockchain-focused financial technology company, is pushing stock lending on-chain with a new system that allows investors to lend shares directly to one another without relying on traditional securities intermediaries.
Figure Launches On-Chain Platform for Direct Stock Lending
Figure Technology Solutions just dropped a game-changer: an on-chain equity network that lets companies issue real shares and investors lend stock directly — no middlemen needed. This isn't synthetic tokenized fluff; these are actual ownership stakes on-chain.
Bloomberg reported Wednesday that Figure's new On-Chain Public Equity Network (OPEN) runs on their Provenance blockchain. CEO Mike Cagney says it bypasses custodians, exchanges, and brokers entirely — shares can be lent or pledged natively on-chain, streamlining settlement and boosting transparency.
Figure went public on Nasdaq in September, raising nearly $800M in its IPO. Their stock (FIGR) has more than doubled since, hitting a $12B market cap. Cagney told Bloomberg several companies are already interested, including digital asset treasury firms — though those carry extra risk due to volatile crypto balance sheets.

2026: The Year Tokenized Stocks Go Mainstream
Tokenized real-world assets blew up in 2025, but mostly in private credit and US government debt. Now equities are having their 'stablecoin moment' — total value hit $1.2B by late December, with monthly trading volumes around $800M.
The space is getting crowded: Backed Finance's xStocks offers dozens of tokenized equities on Kraken and Bybit. Securitize plans on-chain public stock trading. Coinbase and Ondo Finance have similar initiatives cooking.

Bottom line: Traditional stock lending is about to get disrupted. Figure's OPEN platform could slash costs, speed up settlements, and bring unprecedented transparency to equity markets — if regulators play ball.
