MetaMask, the self-custodial crypto wallet developed by Ethereum software company Consensys, is rolling out access to tokenized US stocks, exchange-traded funds and commodities through Ondo Global Markets.

MetaMask just dropped a bombshell — they're rolling out tokenized US stocks, ETFs, and commodities like gold and silver. Starting Tuesday, non-US users can access 200+ assets via Ondo Global Markets tokens on Ethereum. Swap USDC for Ondo GM tokens that track underlying assets 1:1. This is the self-custody future in action.
Ondo Finance has that Trump-backed World Liberty Financial collab, but their native ONDO token is down 80% over the past year (per CoinGecko). Still, the tokenized asset game is heating up.
Desktop support expected in late February
Right now, it's mobile-only on MetaMask. Desktop integration with the browser extension drops by end of February. Consensys confirmed this to Cointelegraph.

30 jurisdictions excluded from rollout
Here's the catch: MetaMask is blocking users in 30 countries/regions. The US, Canada, European Economic Area, and UK are all excluded. They're using IP geolocation to enforce restrictions — if you're in a blocked region, you'll get an error message saying the trade route is unavailable.
Consensys told Cointelegraph: “MetaMask is continuing to explore compliant ways to expand global access to tokenized real‑world assets in line with evolving regulatory frameworks.” Translation: they're watching regulators closely.
Growing trend of RWA and prediction market integration
This move is part of the bigger “everything app” vision. Exchanges and self‑custodial wallets are all jumping into tokenized assets and prediction markets.
