BTC and crypto sell-off reminiscent of post-2000 dot-com crash: Analyst
Large, long-term crypto and Bitcoin investors continue to sell into the market, keeping asset prices from hitting a blow-off top.
Crypto whales and long-term holders are cashing out hard, creating constant selling pressure that's keeping prices suppressed — and analyst Jordi Visser says this is giving major 2000s dot-com crash vibes.
Visser dropped the comparison in a YouTube analysis, pointing out that after the dot-com bubble popped, stocks crashed up to 80% and then spent 16 years consolidating before hitting new highs. The parallel? Venture capitalists back then were locked in with their investments due to mandatory hold periods, then dumped everything the second they could.

“Many stocks were trading below their IPO prices. We have a similar situation going on right now. VC and insider investors, desperate for liquidity or redemption, sold into every rally. That's what's happened to me for Solana, Ethereum, for every altcoin, and for Bitcoin.”

Visser clarified that crypto won't take 16 years to bounce back — he's just using the dot-com aftermath to illustrate the sell-side pressure dynamics. He thinks crypto is nearing the end of this consolidation phase, with maybe one year max left.
This analysis hits as fears grow that a crypto bear market kicked off in October, forcing analysts and investment firms to dial back their most bullish price predictions.

Has Bitcoin bottomed out around the $100,000 level?

Some analysts think BTC is finding a floor around $100K, but others are sweating a potential drop to $92K if selling pressure keeps mounting.
CryptoQuant analyst Julio Moreno pointed out that whales and long-term holders cashing out at ATHs isn't inherently bad — the problem only starts when new demand can't absorb the supply being dumped.
Moreno laid it out straight: “Since October, long-term holder selling has increased; nothing new here, but demand is contracting, unable to absorb long-term holder supply at a higher price.”
