Cash App to unlock stablecoin transactions 'soon'

Jack Dorsey's Block just dropped the news: Cash App users will soon be able to send and receive stablecoins directly through the platform. This is massive for mainstream crypto adoption.
According to a Thursday announcement from Cash App, they're rolling out several crypto features including stablecoin transactions, the ability to spend Bitcoin (BTC $99,239), convert fiat into BTC payments, and more. Fortune reported these features could hit the app in early 2026.

“Soon, millions of Cash App customers will be able to make fast, low-cost payments even if they don’t hold Bitcoin.”

Cash App didn't specify which stablecoins will be available, but the big players are obviously Tether's USDT ($1) and Circle's USDC ($1). Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire straight-up praised the move, hinting he expects USDC to be used for payments on Cash App.
This stablecoin announcement follows Block's Bitcoin feature rollout earlier this week. Dorsey confirmed merchants using Square can now receive Bitcoin-to-Bitcoin, Bitcoin-to-fiat, fiat-to-Bitcoin, or fiat-to-fiat payments. Over 4 million sellers use Square for payments.

“Bitcoin serves as the foundation for an open and borderless financial system, while stablecoins serve as a stepping stone to quickly move digital dollars,” said Miles Suter, Block’s Bitcoin product lead.
