Do Kwon pleads guilty to two charges related to his role at Terraform
Terraform Labs co-founder Do Kwon has changed his plea from not guilty to guilty on two counts of wire fraud and conspiracy to defraud.
Terraform Labs co-founder Do Kwon has flipped the script, swapping his 'not guilty' plea to 'guilty' on two major counts: wire fraud and conspiracy to defraud. This bombshell comes straight from the US District Court in the Southern District of New York (SDNY).
Kwon's plea deal is no joke—$19 million in financial penalties is on the table. Originally facing nine charges, he's now copping to two, which could theoretically land him behind bars for up to 25 years if served consecutively. But the deal's sweetener? Prosecutors are pushing for no more than 12 years. Mark your calendars: sentencing is set for Dec. 11.

It will be up to me to decide what a just sentence for you would be.

The Terra saga took a dark turn in March 2023 when Kwon was indicted for a laundry list of offenses including securities fraud, market manipulation, and money laundering. After a globe-trotting hideout, Montenegrin authorities nabbed him for using fake travel docs. Four months in a Montenegrin prison later, and the US and South Korea were duking it out for extradition rights.
Fast forward to January, and Kwon makes his first appearance in a New York courtroom, pleading not guilty to all charges and getting denied bail. Now, seven months into US custody, he's had a change of heart—or maybe just a better offer.

Why would Do Kwon plead guilty now?

The timing's curious, especially since a trial was on the horizon for January 2026. SDNY's track record with crypto figures isn't exactly lenient—just ask Sam Bankman-Fried, who's staring down a 25-year sentence. And with Tornado Cash's Roman Storm recently convicted, the writing might be on the wall for Kwon.
The Terra crash of 2022 was a $40 billion disaster, and Kwon's been the poster child for crypto's wild west era ever since. Whether this plea is a strategic retreat or a last-ditch effort for leniency, one thing's clear: the crypto community will be watching closely come December.
