US Senate confirms ex-Bitfury exec to lead OCC banking regulator
Jonathan Gould will return to the OCC as Comptroller of the Currency to serve a five-year term following his nomination by US President Donald Trump.
Jonathan Gould, ex-chief legal officer at Bitfury, just got the Senate's nod to boss the OCC. That's the big cheese of banking regulators, folks. 50-45 vote – not a landslide, but enough to seal the deal.
Gould's no newbie to the OCC game. He's been there, done that as senior deputy comptroller and chief counsel. Now, he's back for a five-year gig, thanks to Trump's pick.
This is part of Trump's crypto-friendly regulator shuffle. First, Paul Atkins at the SEC, now Gould at OCC. Rumor has it Brian Quintenz is next for the CFTC chair. Crypto's getting cozy in D.C.
Gould's confirmation means acting OCC head Rodney E. Hood is out. But the CFTC's got seats to fill, and Trump's playing musical chairs with crypto insiders.
Meanwhile, the Senate's racing against the clock to draft a crypto market structure bill by Sept. 30. House Republicans are pushing their own CLARITY Act, but the Senate's version might steal the spotlight.
  • Gould's back at OCC – five-year term incoming.
  • Trump's stacking regulators with crypto-savvy picks.
  • Senate's crypto market structure bill: deadline looming.
  • House's CLARITY Act might get sidelined.
